Srila Prabhupada founded ISKCON in July of 1966. The incorporation document states Seven Purposes of ISKCON:
- The goal is to systematically spread spiritual knowledge throughout society and educate people in the techniques of spiritual living. This effort aims to address the imbalance of values in life and to achieve true unity and peace in the world.
- We seek to promote an awareness of Krishna as revealed in the Bhagavad-gita and Srimad Bhagavatam. Our mission is to bring members of the Society closer to one another and to Krishna, the supreme being, fostering the understanding that each soul is an integral part of the divine quality of Godhead (Krishna).
- We aim to teach and encourage the Sankirtan movement, which involves congregational chanting of God’s holy name, as taught by Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Additionally, we aspire to create a sacred space for members and society at large, dedicated to the transcendental pastimes of Krishna.
- We strive to bring members closer together to promote a simpler and more natural way of life. To achieve these objectives, we will publish and distribute periodicals, magazines, books, and other written works.
